Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
The Bible has a lot to say about your heart. It teaches that you can think with your mind, but you can also think with your heart—which acts like the control centre of your life.
Psychologists often call this part of you the subconscious. They have a limited understanding of it because they tend to focus mainly on the hurts and heartaches that come out of it, but it holds so much more!
Your heart is powerful, which is why Proverbs 23:7 says, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” (NKJV) You are not as you think in your mind, but as you think in your heart. In fact, your heart holds your future. Our verse today says that it determines the course of your life.
The beliefs you hold in your heart have a profound impact on how you experience life. Your mind doesn’t hold the same power. You might desire something in your mind, but it won’t come to pass unless you’re fully persuaded in your heart that it will happen. But don’t let this discourage you. If you want something to change in your life, get excited because this series of devotionals is going to help you!
Start today by committing to make this heart work a priority. Start thinking about how you can set aside 15 to 30 minutes a day to work on this. It doesn’t take long and it reaps an absolutely huge reward. I can’t stress this enough! You see, as your heart begins to function as God designed it, it will produce the kind of life that you once had thought only dreams are made of.
