You’re done with that old life, it’s like a filthy set of ill-fitting clothes you stripped off and put in the fire. Now you’re dressed in a new wardrobe. Every item of your new way of life is custom-made by the Creator, with his label on it. Colossians 3:9–11 (MSG)
Do you struggle to feel good about yourself because of harmful words spoken to you by others? Maybe you had a critical parent or were taunted by a bully. Or maybe you experienced failure in business, school, marriage or another relationship, and you now see yourself as a failure.
Today I would like to encourage you. No matter what has happened to you or what you have done, you are valuable. Actually, you are priceless. God calls you His treasured possession. His love for you knows no end—it is a perfect Father’s love (Malachi 3:7, NKJV).
According to Colossians 3:10, you were made new when you began a relationship with Jesus, but it is up to you to “put on” new habits and behaviors. If someone gives you a new pair of jeans, they don’t benefit you by sitting in the box they came in. You have to take off the old, worn out pair and put on the new. Similarly, you become a brand-new creation when you accepted Jesus into your life, but you still need to clothe yourself with this new, improved style of behaviour before it can benefit you.
How do you gain a better image of yourself? Colossians 3:10 (NLT) says it happens as you “learn to know your Creator and become like him.” Spend time with Him every day and begin to transform your self-image to line up with God’s image of you.
