We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. Romans 3:22 (NLT)
Doing things that are wrong doesn’t change the fact that you are right with God.
A lot of people will have a problem with this statement, but Jesus is the one who qualifies you to be righteous. If you’ve given your life to Christ, you are righteous—but being righteous does not mean you are perfect. You may still do things you shouldn’t, but that doesn’t make you a sinner.
Many people call themselves sinners saved by grace, but this is incorrect. Their nature and standing have changed. They are no longer sinners, even if they do wrong. All the epistles of the Bible were written to the saints. We know by the content of each letter that these people were not acting like saints, but they were addressed this way anyhow. It’s clear that being a saint and being righteous before God doesn’t mean you’re living a perfect life. It means you are right with God and you have the power and ability within you to overcome!
Understanding your righteousness is life-changing. Of course, if you’ve done wrong, there still may be consequences. Your actions can cause tremendous damage to your relationships. Please don’t misunderstand and take sin lightly. Although God won’t look down on you, sin can affect and infect every part of your life.
That being said, the fact remains that you’re right with God even if your performance is lacking in an area. Even if you are struggling with sin, you and God are good. You can always come to Him boldly—in fact, you need His power and strength to do right.
