[He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7 (AMPC)
We cannot be rescued from every stressful situation. Pressure and responsibility are a part of life, but this doesn’t mean that we don’t have help.
Parents who drop their kids off at preschool or kindergarten for the first time know this firsthand. They often get emotional because they know that they were able to shelter and protect their child to a great degree up until that point. They know school will inevitably bring a new set of challenges. Through it all, however, the child’s relationship with mom and dad is a safe place to land, or at least that’s the idea. Mom and Dad wrap their arms around their kids and comfort them through life’s issues, cheering them on and equipping them with skills as well as stepping in to solve the issues that are too tough. God is that kind of Father.
He doesn’t rescue us from our responsibilities, just as a good parent doesn’t take away every challenge from their child. We need to be challenged to grow. He rescues us from sickness, but we will experience the pressure of jobs, relationships and other commitments. This doesn’t mean we’re all alone.
The next time you feel under pressure, remember that your Father God is a safe place to land. He wraps His arms around you to comfort you and He cheers you on, but He has also given you power. You can stand strong and do what’s right. You can be calm when everything seems out of control and you can get through every situation with His peace.
