What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Romans 8:31-33 (NKJV)
Do you ever struggle with shame?
Shame never comes from God. He doesn’t rub our noses in our past mistakes, and He doesn’t try to knock us down a peg by saying, “Hey, don’t get a big head! Remember when you did such-and-such?”
Maybe you’ve heard teaching that God loves you and you’re going to get to Heaven, but that it’s unrealistic to expect healing, prosperity, joy, or peace in this lifetime. But look at what today’s verses are teaching. If a person were willing to give you their son or daughter, there’s nothing more valuable to them! So, if God gave His own Son for you, don’t you think He can give you His peace and joy? Or maybe you worry that He’s forgiven only some of your sins, but believe He’s hanging onto a few big ones to keep for future reference. That’s simply not true!
Romans 8:33 says that as God’s elect(as believers), God has acquitted us. He’s forgiven you. He has remade you. God says in the courts of the universe, “You are a brand-new creation. Old things have passed away and you are totally new!”(2 Corinthians 5:17).
God doesn’t see you as that former identity before you gave your life to Christ. He sees you through Jesus’ obedience on the cross—and He is shamelessly in love with you!
