Speak It and See It

March 29, 2022

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

Unless you continually declare your beliefs, you'll find the culture and negativity of this world seeping into you like a marinade. Thankfully, today's verse describes one of the best remedies: meditative prayer. It says God's Word "shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night."

Now, it doesn't mean speaking verses like a hex—it's not about saying the right words a certain way to conjure a result. No, the purpose of this kind of prayer is to make the Word drop into your heart. When it reaches that deep level of belief, the Word changes how you look at life and what you believe.

This kind of meditation is more than reciting words. The Hebrew word for "meditate" in today's verse is hagah, which actually means to speak, mutter, ponder and imagine.

Simply reciting "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" doesn't do much. But let's say you're worried about a speaking event. You could declare this verse and imagine yourself with the strength to stand on that podium and deliver your speech confidently.

As you pray the Word, get your mind and heart involved. Let it awaken new dreams and visions within you. Imagine God's promises until you see the results. This kind of out-loud meditation transforms your heart. And as your heart changes, you'll begin to see the God kind of success in your relationships, finances, health and every single area!
