Spiritual Gifts Aren’t Always So Spiritual

February 26, 2022

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 1 Corinthians 12:4 (NLT)

God placed great potential within you before you were born. This potential was in you before you ever began a relationship with Jesus, which explains why people who don’t know Him can still achieve great things without Him.

Actually, as sad as this may seem, many people who don’t know Jesus seem to have an easier time realizing their potential. This is because most Christians attribute only so-called “spiritual gifts” to God—gifts that can be used in the ministry.

What they don’t realize is that He also gives people great gifts of leadership, management, influence and ability to make money. He gives gifts in the areas of teaching, craftsmanship, medicine, politics and the arts—just to name a few.

Although these natural abilities are no less spiritual than a great singing or preaching gift, many believers value them less. Some even go so far as to discourage them for fear that they are too worldly.

Christianity cannot be relegated to only church services. I love church—don’t get me wrong. But the one-hour service you attend once a week is not your Christian walk. To gain influence in the world that lies beyond the four walls of the church, we have to believe that God has given us the potential to do so.

God has placed within you natural gifts and abilities that can make a huge impact on your world. It’s time to develop them. God needs His people to gain influence in every area of life, so rise up and recognize the potential He has placed in you!
