Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus. But when he looked down at the waves churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried, “Master, save me!” Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Matthew 14:29–31 (MSG)
There will always be more to learn in life and you’ll never be perfect. Don’t let that make you feel unqualified to introduce others to Jesus. Don’t let it stop you from doing what God has called you to do.
Many people think they have to become an expert before they can reach anyone for Jesus, but it’s not true. They fall for the lie that they are one revelation away from a miraculous ministry. Or they think that they need one more key before they’ll be ready. They keep reading books and going to conferences trying to gain more knowledge before they start sharing their faith.
While it’s great that they’re learning and I’m not suggesting they stop, the fact is that they’ll never feel ready. Sometimes you just have to step out of the boat. You need to take that leap of faith and reach out to someone with the knowledge and skills you currently have and trust God to fill in the blanks.
You may never feel confident enough to talk to people about your faith. But if you step into their world in a way that lets them know that you respect and accept them as they are, you’ll be amazed at what happens. You see, God has people He wants you to talk to. Just be kind and stay open. Get prepared by continuing to grow in your relationship with God, and He will lead you to people who need your help.
