Step Right Up!

June 30, 2021

Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favour to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it.] Hebrews 4:15 (AMPC)

How do we approach God? By simply praying and talking to Him. As believers, we enjoy direct access to God’s incredible grace which sets us free and helps us desire the right things.

I’m so grateful that as believers, we aren’t approaching a throne of judgement or punishment! “Hey, Leon, where are you going?” “Oh, I’ve got to visit the throne of punishment today.” Wouldn’t that be awful? Instead, we are welcome to draw near to a throne of unmerited favour, where everything that Jesus won and died for is available to us.

Even when we’ve sinned, we can still come confidently to God because of our right-standing with Him through Christ. The Message Translation says, “So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.” You might say, “God, I’m asking for Your grace to help me parent our teenagers.” God’s unearnable, freely given grace works together with applied wisdom and willpower to help us grow toward becoming that trustworthy friend or patient parent. If you feel defeated or betrayed, God’s grace is readily available to help you work toward restoring areas of heartache, rejection and grief too.

Jesus is the answer to every problem you’re experiencing right now. You don’t need to approach sheepishly or avoid Him; come confidently to the One who longs to shower you with mercy and empower you in every way.
