SURROUND YOURSELF WITH FAITH

June 9, 2022

But Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood before Moses. “Let’s go at once to take the land,” he said. “We can certainly conquer it!” But the other men who had explored the land with him disagreed. “We can’t go up against them! They are stronger than we are!” Numbers 13:30-31 (NLT)

When you’re up against something difficult, you need people who will surround you with faith.

On the way to the Promised Land, Moses sent 12 spies ahead to scout out the area. When these men reported back, ten were fearful and overwhelmed by the giants they had found there. But the other two spies were confident they could conquer those giants and take the land.

This Promised Land was described as “a bountiful country—a land flowing with milk and honey” (Numbers 13:27, NLT). Now, that didn’t mean there was milk in the creek. It meant there were established ranches everywhere and honey was readily available. Back then, this kind of abundance was rare.

The future God has for you is like that Promised Land flowing with blessing. But when you’re facing enemies or going through a storm, it’s crucial to listen to the right people.

Some people are like the ten spies. They’ll feel sorry for you, get emotional and huddle around you in prayer as if it’s a funeral. The Bible does say to weep with those who weep (Romans 12:15). But a defeated mindset that grieves ahead of time destroys faith.

In difficult times, surround yourself with people of faith who will believe with you. Champions like the two spies will say, “I’ve got your back. I know what you’re going through, but it’s not over yet. Let’s get up and do great things for God.”
