For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4 (AMPC)
When your back is against the wall and it’s time to come out fighting, where do you focus your energy? Are you fighting a war with the devil…or are you fighting to know who you are in Christ?
Some people engage in what they call spiritual warfare, which focuses mainly on binding demons to keep them from attacking certain parts of their lives. According to today’s verse, we certainly are in a war, but it’s not about fighting things outside of us. The strongholds don’t represent an external force coming against us. They are actually barriers within us.
Verse 5 of 2 Corinthians 10 clarifies this definition, saying that strongholds are “arguments and theories and reasonings” and “thoughts” that go against what God says. In other words, the battle is taking place between your two ears.
You may hold inner beliefs that threaten to limit you from the incredible life God has for you. These arguments are going on inside of you. As you work to convince yourself of God’s promises, doubt limits you. You begin to form theories as to why you aren’t getting healed or why you can’t seem to move forward. These thoughts and theories control you, keeping you stuck where you are.
But the truth is, you don’t need to fight more demons to overcome your limitations, and your circumstances don’t necessarily need to change. The change needs to happen within you—within your thoughts, theories and reasonings. Let God’s Word go to work in your heart today and equip you with victorious beliefs!
