"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy." John 10:10 (NKJV)
Do you have a dream for your life, or are you letting circumstances take you any which way?
Dreaming is a crucial skill to develop. You see, you have an enemy—and his dream is to steal, kill and destroy what's important to you. He wants to sabotage your trust in God and pull you off the paths God has for you. To counter these evil dreams, we need to cultivate our own dreams based on God's Word.
The story of David and Goliath in 1 Samuel 17 can show us a thing or two about dreaming. Now, the Israelites were at war with the Philistines, who had an interesting strategy. Rather than lose half their men in battle, they decided to send out their favourite warrior to challenge God's people.
This champion was the giant Goliath. He would get up and shout at the Israelites, taunting them with his evil dream of defeat. He painted a vivid picture of slaughtering their men, raping their women and enslaving their children.
And he wasn't some scrawny schoolboy making empty threats. No, Goliath was over nine feet tall. He was so powerful that his spearhead weighed at least 15 pounds. Can you imagine the strength it would take to throw that thing?
This intimidating champion didn't declare his twisted dream only once. He screamed at the Israelites twice daily for forty days! In fact, it didn't stop until David, a young shepherd boy, showed up and began to talk back.
I don't know what giant is screaming at you right now. But I challenge you: don't accept any dream that doesn't line up with God's Word. Rise up like David, talk back and declare victory!
