The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Proverbs 29:25 (NKJV)
There are two kingdoms in this world—the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. Whether or not you’re aware of it, both of them have an agenda for your life.
In the kingdom of light, God’s plan is for you to experience “righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit” (Romans 14:17, NKJV). On the other hand, in the kingdom of darkness, Satan’s primary weapon is fear.
Today’s verse paints a picture of fear as a snare. If you’ve ever seen a hunter’s snare in action, you know when that trap closes around an animal’s leg, it won’t let go—regardless of how hard the animal struggles. Fear does the same thing in our lives. It’s a destructive spirit that brings torment (1 John 4:18) and seeks to keep us immobile.
The good news is that every believer has a God-given ability to win against fear. Why is that? It’s because you’re a citizen of God’s Kingdom, where fear can have no dominion.
Think of it this way. I could take a trip to France or Australia, but wherever I travel, I’m still a citizen of Canada. In the same way, as a citizen of God’s Kingdom, you can enjoy the benefits of citizenship right here in this world, even before you get to Heaven. You can walk in God’s supernatural peace and joy no matter what comes against you.
Tomorrow, I’ll show you how to practice this joy and use it as a powerful weapon against fear. But for today, meditate on the fact that you are a citizen of God’s Kingdom. Fear no longer has dominion over you!
