How do you “put on” God’s armour? By planting the truths and promises in His Word deep in your heart.
The more you come to firmly accept and believe God’s thoughts, the harder it becomes for any opposing views to penetrate. The enemy’s lies just bounce off the armour.
Now, that won’t stop Satan from trying to find chinks in your armour where he might weasel in. For example, he may fire some shots at your marriage to see if anything will stick. You’ll know he’s attacking because you’ll notice negative thoughts popping into your mind like, “My marriage is in a rut. She used to be a lot more fun,” or, “He used to love me more than he seems to now.”
Those are not God-given thoughts—they are demonically driven. But if those thoughts bang against armour that believes, “My marriage is a blessing from God!” they’ll fall flat. Knowing and standing on God’s Word, the truth, extinguishes the enemy’s lies quickly.
But what happens if one of his lies manages to penetrate your thought life? It will begin to infect that area of your life for as long as you believe it. For instance, some people spend their whole lives convinced “all men want only one thing,” or “all anybody wants is your money.” Believing lies destroy people’s ability to enjoy those areas of their lives.
Fortunately, you can protect yourself by meditating on the truths found in God’s Word. Hammer His promises into your heart and mind. Then no matter what the enemy tries, when the smoke clears, the only one burned will be him.
