The Power of Grace

June 28, 2021

Since we are now joined to Christ, we have been given the treasures of redemption by his blood —the total cancellation of our sins—all because of the cascading riches of his grace. Ephesians 1:7 (TPT)

Is grace just God’s ability to see past your sin? No, it’s way more than that!

God’s grace isn’t just about Him loving us through our mistakes or despite our issues. Although that’s certainly true, God’s grace includes His incredible power to change our lives!

Romans 3:24 (AMPC) describes grace as “unmerited favour and mercy.” Unmerited, meaning it is a gift. You and I could never earn God’s grace. But it’s freely given to us because of what Jesus did on the cross.

Many focus only on the “unmerited” part due to being raised in legalistic, rule-based religion. Needing to realize God loves you the way you are and that His grace is unearnable through your works is understandable. We can’t live our lives perfectly enough to win God’s blessing or to earn miracles. Unmerited means it’s a gift, freely given to us through no accomplishment of our own. But the word “favour” is equally important.

One definition of favour is “kindness beyond what is due or usual.” God’s grace entails knowing His forgiveness, joy and victory over sin. It includes experiencing good health, love in your home and relationships that are strong and alive! Every promise in the Word of God comes to you through His favour—His unearned kindness and love for you beyond what you deserve—all you’ve got to do is believe it to receive it!

It’s important to recognize we can’t earn it, but that’s only a part of how all-encompassing God’s grace truly is in our lives. His grace empowers us to rise and grow in all areas, rich in His wisdom, steeped in His love and overflowing with His joy as we journey toward becoming more like Christ.
