Train Your Heart

March 27, 2022

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

As a young paramedic, I found myself in horrifying situations almost daily—surrounded by the sights, smells and sounds of the hurt and dying. Within my first year of dealing with this stuff, I started to become burnt out and hard-hearted.

I knew something had to change. I had to figure out how to strengthen myself and bring God's power to those suffering all around me.

So I worked out a training program for myself. Every morning before work, I would listen to a message from God's Word. As I filled my heart with His promises, I began speaking them out loud.

I would declare things like, "When I lay my hands on the sick, they recover. No evil thing can hurt me. A thousand may fall at my side, ten thousand at my right hand, and it won't touch me."

These out-loud prayers began to unlock things inside me. I would pray for patients and see healing take place. I found strength and resilience building up inside me. It wasn't that I was more special to God than others—it's simply because I began to reprogram my heart.

You see, your words hold incredible power. When God created the universe, He didn't do it with a snap of His fingers. He spoke. Jesus also used His words to perform miracles, and both the physical and spiritual worlds had to obey Him.

When you meditate on the Word and speak it out loud, you reprogram your heart. And as things change inside you, the miraculous takes place. You begin to access the power God has already given you.

What will you declare today?
