The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:7 (NKJV)
In raising our five children, Sally and I watched them go through very typical issues that every child faces. When they were struggling, we didn’t always step in immediately to save the day. They learned to solve problems and conflicts on their own. But if they ever reached the end of what they could do, we would never withhold help.
For example, if my son had climbed a tree when he was six and became tangled in the branches, unable to get down, I wouldn’t have said, “You’re on your own!” When he had reached the end of his little six-year-old ability and he had done what he could, he would say, “Dad, help!” and I’d be right there to catch his fall.
Life can be tough, but we have a Father who loves us and is ready to catch our fall. He wants to comfort you when you’ve had a rough day. When you read the Bible, you can almost hear Him cheering you on as you handle life. And you can always rely on His strength.
He still expects you to continue to do what you can, to work hard, grow and learn. But He works within you all the time. It’s not a matter of relying on your own strength until it runs out, then involving God. You simply do what you can and keep going while trusting that His power and ability are in you.
When you don’t think you can handle anymore, remember that His strength is always in you. You can trust Him.
