WAITING IN FAITH

July 19, 2022

Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength. Isaiah 40:30–31 (NKJV)

When it comes to waiting on God, many people think it's a time-related thing. But it's actually about preparing your heart and establishing faith. It's about changing your beliefs with God's Word.

Several Hebrew words are used in the Bible to mean "wait." One of them carries the meaning of twisting, braiding or binding something together. This reminds me of Ecclesiastes 4:12, which describes how a cord of three strands is not easily broken.

Jesus also said in John 14:20 (NLT), "When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you." See, you and God are so intertwined that you are one. To wait on Him is to remember, "I am God's son or daughter. He's in me and I'm in Him. I can't lose!"

Look at the story of Abraham. In his old age, God promised that he would be the father of many nations. How could that be possible? God was calling things that didn't exist yet as though they did.

And what was Abraham's response? Romans 4:17 (NLT) says, "Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing." Abraham prayed and thanked God in advance for what He was going to do. He trusted and knew that God would not fail him.

As you wait in faith, you are braiding and binding your heart to God in the same way. You are establishing the kind of faith that declares the answer before it arrives!
