Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed... Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:3–5 (NKJV)
Yesterday we saw that when David was under pressure, he waited on the Lord and strengthened himself. I want to spend the next few days unpacking what this word wait means—because contrary to popular belief, it's not about waiting for God to move.
Today's scripture gives us a hint. When you slow down and wait on God—in other words, spend time with Him—He'll show you His ways. As you meditate on the Word, He'll teach you the way to raise your children, handle your finances and manage your emotions.
Proverbs 14:12 warns us there are ways that seem right to us, but end in death. In a crisis, too many people make hasty decisions and jump from the frying pan into the fire. Others fail to keep their values and integrity when the pressure is on. For some reason, they can't seem to maintain God's way of doing life.
I don't know about you, but I need God's guidance in my life every day. Psalm 37:34 (NKJV) says, "Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land." Did you catch that sequence of events? First you wait on the Lord, and then you are able to keep His ways. And doing life God's way leads to blessing.
Make a point to spend time with God today. Enjoy His presence, ask Him to show you His ways, and you'll find yourself gravitating toward the right paths!
