I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Psalm 40:1–2 (NLT)
Have you ever tried walking in the mud? It's not too bad unless clay is mixed into it; then your rubber boots get stuck with every step.
In life, there are many ways the enemy tries to get us stuck in the "mud and mire." Financial or relational crises, depression, sickness—in these situations, it can feel like you're stuck in a pit of despair.
In these times, it's more important than ever to wait on God. Now, waiting is more than sitting around and expecting something to happen. It's the act of spending time with God on purpose to build up your faith.
It doesn't matter how much chaos is happening around you. It doesn't matter what methods you've tried before to get out of that situation. As you wait on God, He will pick your feet out of the mess and set you on a rock.
The Word says He will lead you on smooth paths, not rocky terrain or terrible roads. It says His yoke is easy and His burden is light (Matthew 11:28–30). As you develop your faith, He gives you direction, makes your way smooth, picks you up, exalts you and gives you the desires of your heart.
We live in a real world with a real enemy. But when life goes sideways, if you slip and fall, God will pick you right back up. Trust Him to go before you and make your way smooth!
