Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries; for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence. I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Psalm 27:12–13 (NKJV)
Are you up against any adversaries right now? Maybe someone is spreading lies about you or attacking your integrity. Even if no human is against you at the moment, we as believers have an adversary in this world (1 Peter 5:8).
When attacks come, you will easily lose heart unless you believe in God's goodness toward you. This goodness isn't a promise for the sweet by and by. No, it says in Psalm 27:13 (NKJV) that you will see the goodness of the Lord "in the land of the living." That means here and now.
Verse 14 goes on to say, "Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart." Notice that it doesn't say waiting on God strengthens your mind, emotions or body. Waiting strengthens your heart—because your heart strengthens all of the above.
As you wait on God and grow in His Word, it changes how you see yourself and how you see God. An incredible peace comes over you—a sense of stillness and confidence in how good God is—and you tap into a strength that will carry you through any attack.
Decide to wait on Him. Expect to see God's goodness at work in your life. Declare Psalm 62:5–6 (NKJV) and say, "My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved."
