Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.” Mark 11:22-23 (NLT)
God speaks the future before it happens.
God repeatedly spoke through the prophets of old, foretelling many details about Jesus—where He would be born, how He would suffer, and how He would die for humanity’s sins. God spoke many prophecies before one of them came to pass.
We speak to our futures, too. For example, when someone asks how your year is going, what’s your response? “Well, everything is a mess. It’s going to be another crummy year.” Or, do you voice what God says belongs to you as a believer—blessing, prosperity, health, healing and protection?
My prayers include fellowshipping with God. Then following His example, I begin to declare His promises aloud over the future. For example, I’ll say, “Father, thank you for Your promises. I thank You for protection over my kids as they travel. I speak Your blessing and protection over my wife. I thank You for healing and health in our bodies, and that Your goodness and mercy follow us everywhere. Thank you that blessing and prosperity flow in this situation….” My words might sound like jargon, but I’m speaking Biblical promises that are incredibly precious to me.
Jesus instructed His disciples to speak in faith and to declare from convinced hearts. Mark 11:24 says that “if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours” (NLT). When we pray in a way that declares God’s promises in faith, we are prophesying to our futures.
