“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 (ESV)
God wants the best for you.
Many people mistakenly think God decides who receives an incredible blessing and who gets just a little dab. That’s not the way God thinks or operates at all.
Today’s verse, regardless of the translation you read, says that Jesus came to give His believers life. Someone might say, “Well, He just meant spiritually.” I agree that it is spiritual, but this life Jesus is talking about doesn’t just stay confined to the spiritual realm. Our spiritual blessings can’t help but spill over into the mental, relational and physical domains, too. Jesus’ presence in our spirit impacts every area of our lives.
What kind of life did Jesus come to give us? A real, genuine, vigorous, abundant life—the same as He possesses. And how much life? So much that there’s no way we could even count the number of God’s blessings in our lives. In fact, the word “perissos” used in the original Greek for “abundant” means just that—over and above, more than is necessary, extraordinary.
So, with God’s life on the inside of us, what is His will for us? Matthew 6:10 says that God’s will for us on Earth is the same as it is in Heaven. Isn’t it interesting that God uses Heaven as the model to show what He wants for us?
Now, nothing this side of Heaven can compare to the real thing. So, until you get there, know that God gave His only Son, Jesus, and His Spirit—His very best—for you so that you could experience an extraordinary life in Him. God’s plans for you are nothing short of incredible!
