WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WAIT?

July 14, 2022

Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him... But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6 (NKJV)

One day, David and his men returned home from battle to discover devastating news: enemies had destroyed their city and stolen their wives and children. David's men were so upset that they wanted to kill him.

But what's interesting is that David didn't try to defend himself. Instead, the first thing he did was pull away and "strengthen himself in the Lord." My first thought is, "Well, that's a rip-off! You don't even tell me how he did it!" So I began studying his life to figure out his secret, and I discovered a word that changed my life: wait.

Before we dive into what it means to wait, let's first unpack what it doesn't mean. Many people think waiting means God is withholding something from you so that you'll learn in the suffering. But that's not who He is.

I've found that God often moves "suddenly" (Isaiah 48:3, 2 Chronicles 29:36). Today is the day of salvation, not tomorrow or next year (2 Corinthians 6:2). God's eyes are always on His family so that He can move now (2 Chronicles 16:9).

A good dad taking his toddler for a walk won't take his eyes off that child for a second. Why? Because if his child wanders into the street, he wants to react in an instant. In the same way, God is watching you and wants to explode onto the scene for you! He's not slow to act.

Tomorrow I'll share more on what this word wait really means. For now, realize that you can tap into supernatural strength through your relationship with God, like David did.
