Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14:6 (NLT)
In John 8:32, Jesus said “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (NLT). But what is truth? Well, first let’s cover what isn’t the truth. The truth is not that you’re the bad one in your family. You may have been told that by a family member, but that family member doesn’t hold the truth.
Your mom or dad may have said that you were hard-headed or a teacher may have called you slow, but your parents and teachers aren’t your source of truth. Maybe you read a book about personality types and it said that because of your personality, you will struggle in a certain area. That doesn’t mean you can’t overcome it! That book doesn’t hold the patent on truth!
Who holds the truth? Jesus does! In fact, Jesus IS the truth, according to our verse today.
The truth that Jesus represents is the fact that He died in your place. He took mankind’s sin and punishment so you could receive the nature of God and walk in His favour and blessing.
When you struggle to keep your thoughts positive, run that negative train of thought by the truth of God’s Word to see if it holds up. If you’re feeling discouraged and are losing hope, the truth of your situation is that you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. If you’re feeling sick and tired, the truth is that because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, He will make your mortal body alive and well (Romans 8:11)!
Jesus is your truth and He set you free!
