For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. Romans 8:14 (NLT)
If you've been raised in church, you've probably heard people talk about something called the anointing. Sometimes when a pastor delivers a particularly passionate message, they'll say, "The anointing was sure upon him today!"
But what is the anointing? What does it really mean?
In the Old Testament, it referred to God's presence being on someone in a special way. Generally, the only people to receive the anointing were prophets, kings and priests. Being anointed meant they would receive direction and wisdom from God to lead the people.
Nowadays, the anointing is for all believers. All of us can be directed by God. Acts 10:38 (NLT) teaches that God anointed Jesus “with the Holy Spirit and with power.” Jesus, the Anointed One, now lives inside you! You don't need someone else to be the middleman between you and God. His still, small voice speaks to you.
Romans 8:16 (NKJV) says that Holy Spirit “bears witness” with your spirit, telling you that you are a child of God. You have this remarkable relationship with Holy Spirit for yourself! In Acts 2:17 (NLT) we read, “‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.’”
You see, the anointing isn't reserved for pastors or evangelists. It's for everyone who has a relationship with Jesus Christ. As you get into God's Word and learn to recognize His voice, you'll be guided by Him in every area of your life. You'll begin to operate in His power. His anointing is on you as a child of God!
