For as he thinks in his heart, so he is. Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV)
Your life is profoundly influenced by your thoughts. What you think of yourself controls your actions towards others, your faith in God, and how far you will go in life. Actually, your thoughts and beliefs form the basis upon which you build your life.
We have an enemy in this world who loves to limit our potential to make a difference in the lives of others. One way he limits us is by influencing us to believe that we’re less than we are. Failure, criticism and rejection can also wreak havoc on our self-worth, if we allow them. As a result, many wear public masks and play it safe in life. But inside, they struggle with insecurity. They fear that if anyone found out how imperfect they really are, they would face rejection.
God wants you to think highly of yourself! He doesn’t make junk. You are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14, NKJV). He created you for a purpose and He doesn’t like seeing you call yourself down and discounting your worth.
Having high self-esteem doesn’t mean you’re narcissistic. The type of self-esteem God wants you to have is healthy—not full of pride, arrogance, self-centeredness or an over-inflated love of self.
You don’t need to think you’re better than anyone else to understand your worth. Realize today that you can view yourself favourably and respect yourself, while admiring and respecting others at the same time.
