Your Assignment, Should You Choose to Accept It

August 13, 2021

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)

If you’ve given your life to Christ, today’s verse says that you’re chosen. But chosen to do what? The answer is to proclaim God’s praises—to spread the Gospel and tell people what Jesus has done for you. This is your assignment in life!

Yet many of us are held back by fears or insecurities. We disqualify ourselves, thinking we don’t know enough, we’re not outgoing enough or we don’t have what it takes to share Jesus. Other times, we’re simply not motivated.

Jesus has some frank words for us in Luke 6:46 (NKJV): “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?” Can you imagine trying to run a business where everyone listens to you, but nobody does what you say? It would be impossible to produce anything. The organization is useless unless the people in it do what’s asked of them.

As a believer, you’re a citizen of a new Kingdom, and your King is Jesus. Are you doing what your King says?

Don’t get me wrong. Regardless of what you do or don’t do, you’re special, accepted and loved by God—that never changes! But here, Jesus is showing us the key to living an incredible life that builds God’s Kingdom. You’ll find there’s nothing more satisfying than fulfilling your God-given purpose.

We’re going to spend the next few days unpacking this mission we’ve been given. For now, meditate on the fact that you have an assignment—to proclaim the praises of God! Will you choose to accept it?
