Your Identity: Don’t be Deceived

December 11, 2021

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3 (NKJV)

When God made Adam and Eve, He made them in His likeness and image, which means they were like Him. They were His kids. But Eve was deceived into thinking something else.

The devil wanted Eve to think she lacked something that could only be found by disobeying God. First he questioned her, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” (Genesis 3:1, NLT). Eve clarified that there was only one tree they were not to eat because that fruit would cause them to die.

“You won’t die,” the devil said to Eve (v. 4). Then he told her that God didn’t want her to eat the fruit because He knew it would make her like God (v. 5). The devil caused Eve to question God’s Word—what God had said.

In 2 Corinthians 11:3, Paul wrote that he was concerned that believers would be deceived in much the same way. The simple truth God’s Word teaches is that accepting Jesus makes us right with God and blameless in His sight(Colossians 1:22), but some are convinced that this isn’t so. As a result, they believe that God is angry with them or that they have to somehow earn their relationship with Him.

The truth is that if Jesus is your Saviour and Lord, you are right with God. You’re entitled to eternity in Heaven, a loving relationship with God, and every promise in the Bible. Don’t let anyone or anything convince you of something else.
