Your Source of Truth

December 15, 2021

Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. John 17:17 (NLT)

What is your source of truth? We can pick up beliefs from many sources, but the only true source is God’s Word.

Imagine that you strapped on a pair of blue-tinted sunglasses when you were a very small child, and you’ve never taken them off since. The world, as you see it, is tinted blue, and you assume everyone sees things the same way.

One day you overhear someone talking about the pure white snow that fell the night before. They go into great detail about the brightness of it; how it glistens and sparkles in the sunlight. Puzzled, you wonder what they’re talking about. To you, white doesn’t exist—at least not in the way others see it.

As you think about their words, you become focused on your sunglasses. Stepping out into the cold, you take off the glasses you’ve worn your entire life. The brightness of the white snow pierces your eyes, causing you to blink back tears as you experience pure, untainted white for the first time. To your amazement, you witness something that had been there all along but you had been completely unable to experience before.

The sunglasses in this story are a lot like your world view in life—the filter through which you see the world. Your world view forms your overall perspective. It’s a collection of beliefs you hold about life, God and yourself.

The white snow represents the truth of God’s Word. We often think we know the truth, just as in this story you thought you knew what white was before taking off your glasses. But Holy Spirit wants to lead you into the whole truth.

Are you making God’s Word your source of truth?
